Greetings from the students at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita! We thank you for giving your time to help out the Wichita community. The Jaydoc Community Clinic (JCC) is a student-run clinic that works in cooperation with the KUSM-W Department of Family and Community Medicine and Guadalupe Clinic. The clinic operates at Guadalupe Clinic, which is located at 940 S. St. Francis, on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We offer health care to uninsured patients. Each patient is checked in by an undergraduate pre-medical student volunteer from one of the area colleges. A medical student then performs a history and physical exam. Finally, the medical student consults with the attending physician to determine a plan of care. Our goal is to see 20 patients every Saturday. As a medical student, you are expected to arrive to the clinic by 9:30 a.m. for orientation on your first day. You will present your patients to the physician, assist in determining the appropriate treatment plan, and complete SOAP notes for each patient to be signed off by the volunteer attending physician. You will be shadowed by a pre-medical student volunteer, so this is an opportunity to assume the teaching role as well. If you have any questions, one of the Executive Directors will be there each Saturday to help ensure that clinic runs smoothly. We know that your schedule is busy, but we hope that during your Family Medicine Clerkship you will see just how valuable the Jaydoc Community Clinic is to your learning, to the patients, and Wichita community as a whole. We believe by continuing to donate a few hours on Saturdays helping out with the clinic throughout the rest of your third and fourth years, that this will not only will enrich your medical education, but leave a lasting impact on the Wichita community.
If you are interested in volunteering,
please email us
with your dates and we will put you on the
schedule.
Thank you very much! |
